General Motors Co. has become one of the top motor vehicle companies in the alternative fuel industry. GMC has made a stand to promote cleaner, more efficient and greener vehicles. Their motto promotes this endeavor: “Thing green, go yellow.”

GMC is promoting its E85 vehicles very heavily. E85 stands for 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. The E85 is made from corn (get the yellow part now) or other biodegradable waste (even garbage). It burns cleaner than regular gasoline. It is also cheaper to make as the corn is grown in the Unites States, thus limiting the dependency on foreign countries. Just these reasons alone show why GMC is setting the standard with alternative vehicles. You also can’t watch a television show without seeing a commercial promoting the new greener GMC.

However, a lot of it has to do with the environment. With the global warming crisis becoming a head-on problem, companies such as GMC are trying to help out. Cars aren’t going to go away just because the earth’s average temperature is rising. GMC isn’t going to stop making vehicles either. That’s why the company offers alternative fuel vehicles, which GMC is committed to.

- GMC is producing 12 E85 FlexFuel vehicles for 2008. The company plans making half of its manufactured cars E85 or biodiesel by the year 2012.

- The GMC offers many different classes of vehicles, not just tiny commuter cars. The Chevy Tahoe, Suburban are just two of the 12 cars offered. These are two large-sized SUVs.

- GMC has partnered with SmartWay to create over 1,400 fueling stations (early 2008) and only plan on creating more and more as people demand more fueling stations.

- GMC offers companies the option of buying a fleet of cars to help reduce gas emissions.

GMC is committed to helping the environment by creating less greenhouse gas emissions. It does offer other alternative options such as its Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell. The car is run on a hydrogen fuel cell and its only waste product is water, making it a truly remarkable improvement. That means no emissions, no greenhouse gases, only water.

The truth is oil and automobile companies are creating alternative fuel expansions to help with the escalating prices of gas and oil, and global warming. The companies are at the point where they realize it is time to do something because consumers are fed up, the environment is in danger and there are cheaper methods.

Alternative fuels are not made from crude oil, which would end the United States dependency on foreign countries. Such alternatives fuels are made from corn, wheat, vegetable oil, pretty much anything that is organic. Companies have even used old car parts to create fuel. These types of alternative fuel expansions are amazing because it is taking natural products that can be grown anywhere, or garbage that needs to be disposed of and using it in a productive, cost efficient manner.

It isn’t all about the money either. The global warming problem has received international attention as of late and many countries, citizens and people are taking a stand to help the environment. The alternative fuels burn cleaner and produce less CO2, which is a major culprit in global warming. Less garbage, less CO2 and cleaner air. Alternative fuel expansions sound like a winning combination.

Major car companies are taking the biggest leaps when it comes to alternative fuels expansion. With the price of oil, car companies have taken the biggest hit. Consumers are looking for more fuel efficient vehicles or even those that don’t require the gasoline that is available at the pump these days. Australia and Sweden have been developing alternative fuel expansions. Those countries already have E85 vehicles on the road. E85 means the fuel is 85 percent ethanol. It also becoming popular in the Midwestern part of the United States where large crops of corn are grown.

Big oil companies are taking notice and are now putting different kinds of pumps at gas stations where there is a demand. As a child, when you used to think about how electric cars would run in the future, you probably never thought it would happen in your lifetime. Well, buckle up because the future is coming. Alternative fuel expansions are changing the way people think and changing lives.

Most people today are looking for a better and safer vehicle that will cost us less to operate when it comes to buying fuel. Many people are seriously looking at buying hybrids because of the savings on fuel. Most hybrid vehicles get a much better mileage and need fewer repairs over the years than the gasoline driven cars of the past. The problem for most people is the fact that since hybrid vehicles are relatively new they are afraid that they may not be able to find the alternative fuel whenever they need it. Alternative fuels are not yet readily accessible like the modern day service stations that provide gasoline on every corner. The use of an alternative fuel is readily accepted by people in foreign countries and the growth of alternative fuel stations seems to be going hand and hand together. The problem with the American market is the oil companies do not want to give up their place in the market as the leader in fuel providers. The oil companies do not want to take a chance that the American Manufacturers will make hybrid vehicles that will no longer need the power of gasoline and that are why they fight the idea of alternative fuels. It is much safer to use some of the fuels that are made from natural products like corn and oats which is better for our eco system than it is to use the gasoline that the oil companies produce.

The eco system and even the fact that our economy would be better is not the concern of the big oil industrialist their concern is all about the money. Let’s face it we hit the pockets pretty sternly if everyone no longer needed oil. The demand would shake the oil industry causing them to tumble and perhaps some of the wars that we are now engaged in would no longer be necessary. The most of the oil is found in the Middle East while products to make the alternative fuels can be grown in America. We pay farmers millions of dollars a year not to grow corn but if we were using it to make an alternative gas then everyone would profit in America today!
